USB Quit working (kinda)

Hi all; A few months ago, my cordless USB wheel mouse quit working, having
not taken the time to figure it out, I'm actually now having different
problems as well.
Most of the USB Devices I previously installed - seem to work ok. The
biggest problem now, is installing new ones.
I've recently tried to install three different devices - none of them will
install the driver. Keeps saying there's a problem installing, then leaves
the famous yellow
Question mark - for that device. I have a hard time believing there's
really a problem with three different devices- leaving me with the
expectation that there is a hardware problem at a lower level (USB Hub,
controller, or whatever)
I've been thinking of removing all USB Devices (including those) and let the
system re-discover them. What I don't want to do, is then have worse
problems!

I'd appreciate any help I can get

Ben

You could from Device Manager ( after you disconnect all your USB Devices )
remove all the USB Controllers and let XP reinstall them. If you are just
adding new USB devices you may need an additional
power source

Well- I have now tried that, with no success-- As a matter of fact- I
couldn't even load the drivers for the controller
I ended up doing a restore from the previous restore point.
Thanks for the thoughts, does anyone have any more.

I have a similar problem, I reinstalled Windows XP on a clean install and
now none of my usb or firewire connections work. None of the advice works and
I can't find help anywhere. From reading on the MS site it seems that
upgrading the drivers in NOT a good idea as it can cause exactly this
problem. Help anyone please!

On a clean install, you also need to install the motherboard
drivers from the motherboard mfg'rs website or the mobo
driver CD that came with the computer.
