Dear Reader,

I own 2 brother printers, HL-1440 AND HL-1240. My problem is when I cold
boot my computer it doesn't recognize my printers. After the computer is
started, I unplug and replug the usb on the printers and windows
acknowledges the printers. The problem may have come about when I purchased
an usb 2.0 hub. I have no other problems with my other peripherals. Below
are all the troubleshooting steps I have taken:

1. Removed the hub

2. Delete and add the printers

3. Uninstall and reinstall the drivers

4. Change usb ports

5. Factory reset the printers

Any info would be appreciated. My operating system is Windows XP
Professional.

What you are experiencing is a Windows problem. It also happens to me. I
have an Xp Pro connnected via a cross over cable to a Home XP machine.

When I boot the XP pro the only way I can get the network to function is to
unplug the network cable and plug it back in again. Hey, it may not be as
high tech as other ways to get a network running but it works! I've heard
that MS may fix the problem in Vista.

Have you tried it without the hub? Is it a powered hub? Tried with just
one printer?
