usb printing support

How do i get usb printing support installed in win xp? I
am tring to install a HP printer but it doesnt reconize
it when I plug in the usb port. It gets installed as an
unknown device. If anyone knows how to resolve this
please help. Under usb devices there should be USB
PRINTING SUPPORT but I cant seem to find out how to add
that...I think that is why it does not reconize the
printer.
