USB ports

Sarah P.

I just recently upgraded my computer (new motherboard,
new processor, new RAM, moved information over to new
hard drive) and I am trying to re-install my scanner,
printer, and memory card device for digital camera. I
cannot seem to get it to work, I believe that the USB
ports that I have (9 of them) aren't registering that
I've got these new hardware plugged in.
I just recently downloaded the Service Pack 2 for XP Pro.
It has worked in the past, but now it doesn't. Is there a
way to program the computer to recognize the USB ports? I
was told by the computer who did the upgrading that the
Service Pack 2 disables the USB ports, but that doesn't
seem to make any since to me. Please help.

I'm not sure what you mean by how the upgrade was done. I
took it in to a computer store (not CompUSA or anything
like that, but a store that does upgrades,
troubleshooting, installation, and whatnot. What they
did, I think, was replace my old motherboard, my old
processor, my video card, replaced old (no longer
compatiable RAM) RAM with new RAM, moved information over
from old hard drive to new. They copied my files (XP Pro
included) from that old drive to the new.
I still had problems with my computer, so had to take it
back a second time. Those problems: couldn't get into the
Control Panel, error message about Internet Explorer not
responding. They figured that it was my wireless
connection causing the problem. They tried to re-
configure the wireless, but to no avail (they thought it
was a driver problem, so installed new drivers). So they
removed the wireless software. The control panel worked,
but I could not get into the Office programs (and a
couple of others). When I went into the Add/Remove
Programs from the Control Panel, there was an option to
Repair Office Professional 2003. Though, it gave me a
message telling me that some of the Service Pack 2
components were not installed correctly or at all. I
installed that and all the programs that didn't work now
do. Except now, I cannot use my scanner, printer, or
memory card reader for digital camera.
The strange thing is, before I took my computer in to
upgrade, I downloaded the Service Pack 2 and everything
seemed fine, but I'm not completely sure. They did
install new drivers.
I called them and they said it was the Service Pack 2,
but I really don't believe it is. I called another
company and they said to reboot the computer from the XP
disk and run a repair to override the Pack and see if
that's the problem. What should I do???
