USB ports

I have six USB ports on my dell. Normally,I insert a jump drive(flash drive)
in order to download or drag and drop or whatever.
One port(L) works fine. Problem is that whenever I insert into any other
port and double click to open I get a message saying"insert a disk in drive".
In other words, the message is telling me to do exactly what I just did. I
have tried using a different
flash drive. Same result. This renders all ports but one unusable.
Anyone have an idea as to what causes this?

Have you checked the Dell Support site for Vista USB drivers?

To David A.Spicer:
Thanx for your response. I should have mentioned sooner that the computer
is a new Dell E520 and that Vista was installed at the factory. So I think
I'm safe assuming that they loaded whatever I needed. I don't think a "bad"
Vista could have gotten thru their factory testing.

This could not be farther from the truth. Dell does not update their
installation software when they release updates. Check to see if you have
this latest BIOS update:

Release Title: BIOS: Dell Dimension System BIOS, English, Dimension DM061,
2.4.0
Release Date: 7/11/2007
Criticality: Recommended
Description: DM061 2.4.0 System BIOS
