USB Ports Not Working

Guest

I have a dell 8300 dimension pc running Windows XP Home. All of a sudden my
usb ports stopped working. I have uninstalled my printer and Ipod and
reinstalled them but the USB's still don't work. I also unsinstalled the USB
controllers in Device manager and rebooted the pc. The usb controllers
reinstalled but no device are recognized when they are plugged into any od
the USB ports. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob

Unless the PC is still under guarantee, in which case call Dell, there is a
chance the ports on the motherboard may have failed. If you want to replace
the motherboard, then do so but a good temporary solution to this is to add
a PCI USB 2.0 card and give youself the ports back with the minimum of
hassle.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't even think of adding a USB PCI card but
that does sound like an easy solution. Thanks much for the suggestion. Bob

Google "usb.inf". Download the file and place it in tyour Windows>Inf folder.
It solved the long and drawn otu problem I had with certain usb devices not
being recognized.
