usb port not working properly

Hi,can somebody help me,I think the usb port is not working properly in my
computer,every time I connect a device into it doesnt get recognize and if I
connect a usb flash drive, the computer open it ok but if I want to transfers
files or photos to it I get a message saying that it cannot find the file,
any ideas? I am running Windows XP,SP2,IE7 on a pentiumIII

I occassionally have the same from a linked (not direct to computer) usb
port, just this week with trying to download photographs from my olympus
camera.
If I select a direct usb port at the back of the computer then it works.
From the linked usb I can go to "My computer" and then find it from there.
