USB port not recognized

B

Bulblight

After a clean win2000 installation the OS would not recognize the USB
port (under device manager the USB icon would not appear) and
therefore none of the USB mass storage devices I have can be used.
These same devices have been used in other win2000 flawlessly and used
to work in the same USB port under win98.

I updated everything (Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4). This ought to
solve all the problems with the USB port, but still the USB port
remains to be useful.

IS there a way to manually install the drivers that will enable my USB
port.

TIA

Your system bios may need an upgrade.

I would guess that this happened when you upgraded your bios. I have had this
happen after bios upgrades. the solution I have found is to go into the bios
and "load optimal defaults." Probably hitting "F9" and then saving changes.
It's F9 on ntel Motherboards, my be something else on others. I have also
found PS2 ports and IDE hard drives to become unrecognized after BIOS
upgrades. Loading optimal defaults has been the cure all for all these BIOS
upgrade problems.
