USB Port Issue

My port is shot. Pending the very expensive replacement of the motherboard
(which I have been told is the only solution), is there an adaptor using
another port that would allow me to connect to devices normally connected via
USB???

First check to see if you have additional ports on the board. My
motherboard has four ports on the I/O plate and another four on the board
which can be used with an adapter.

Yes there are USB PCI cards that are commonly added to motherboards.
Comes with 2 or 4 usb ports. Most often work without a hitch or having
to install additional drivers. You still may have to disable the onboard
USB ports on the motherboard tho using the bios setup.

You do not have to disable the integrated USB to use a USB PCI expansion
card. I do that at home to upgrade the integrated USB 1.1 to USB 2.0 on PCI
card.

If your other ports are still working OK (and they are USB 2.0) buy an
external USB hub. This will cost you less money (I think) than buying a PCI
card.
