USB not working

M

mike.

Hellow.

THis is a big problem. It worked one day, then all of a
sudden I plug in my Digital Camea the next and nothing
happens, no recognization or anything. I also have this
problem with a USB Joystick. Is it a software issue or are
my USB ports not working? I am running Windows XP Pro, SP1
installed, USB 2.0, the USB ports are onboard, power suply
is 300 wats. Thanks for your promt responce.

It could be a power issue, but saying you have a 300w unit tells me
nothing.... I'd need to know what other hardware you have in your PC that is
taking up power.

Here's an example from mine:

PSU 425w
But I have:
3 IDE hard drives
1 IDE DVD burner
1 firewire card
1 USB2.0 card
1 NIC
1 soundcard
1 graphics card

On top of all that there are 2 USB2.0 ports on the motherboard and then a
disabled NIC and disabled onboard sound.

In the USB ports are:
i950 Canon printer (powered, obviously)
LiDE 80 Canon scanner (takes power from PSU)
1 SD Card reader
1 ForceFeedback2 joystick (powered)
1 Saitek gamepad

and occasionally my digital camera and/or digital camcorder.

I KNOW I don't have enough wattage on the PSU to supply everything. It
takes a rebooting after disconnecting 'something' to usually get the card
reader to work. At some point I'll upgrade to 600w. Until I'll live with
it.

Try disconnecting something, reboot and see if it comes back.
