USB Not recognised at Boot Up

Sometimes my XP Packrd Bell computer does not recognise an external
USB broadband modem on start-up. The error message is that 'x port is
not open'

If I remove the USB plug and plug it in again it recognises it
straight away.

It is a bit annoying especially if I am in a hurry to logon.

Any ideas?

Is this broadband Cable, DSL, Satellite, wireless networked???
Is your PC left on 24/7 or do you turn it off occasionally?
USB ports will go to sleep if not in use to conserve power.
With the limited info you provided, one can only guess.
Your provider may be of help. Troubleshoot.

It is broadband ADSL and the PC is turned off at night. Dont think it
is the USB going to sleep as when I turn off it is OK. Only on boot-up
does the problem appear. Dont think the provider can be uf much help
as it is obviously a machine based problem.
