USB network problems

I am trying to setup a network between my XP and my 98
with a USB cable. I already connected my 98 and my
laptop with 98 on it and it works just fine. The network
isn't much. Just file and printer sharing. I installed
the drivers needed to run it. Neither computer
regognizes the other. Even if I search for the name of
the computer.
