usb mouse & video driver issues

Two problems: Have a XP Home PC whose screen goes blank for 3 secs whenever
you touch the mouse - seems like either a conflict or a video driver
corruption? Problem started after trying to use Flight Simulator with
joystick.
Second problem is USB mouse that shoots off to screen edge of it's own
accord during the middle of operation, sometimes causing incorrect actions on
computer

Have you newly purchased this mouse. If yes, then problem could be with your
Mouse only. Have you tried any other mouse? If your mouse is under warranty
then I will suggest you to replace it or take it to the Service Center.

Hope this help, let us know!

No, the mouse has been in use for some time - a Microsoft optical wheel
device. Any other ideas gratefully received!

Update your video card drivers. Never get drivers from Windows Update.
Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

Yes, if you assume that your Mouse is fine then follow the instructions given
by Malke and update / reinstall your Display Drives which could another
reason of unusal behavior of your mouse and screen flicking. If you have your
Motherboard CD / or Display Card (if not inbuilt) then try to reinstall
drivers.

Hope this help, let us know!

Have removed existing driver by using device manager and also by using
uninstall from control panel. Restarted in Safe mode and installed driver
from original disc. Initially it appeared to solve the problem but after 30
minutes of not using computer it was back to where it started. I cannot
understand why it should get worse in time but not using the computer -
almost like something else is being loaded after the computer has been on for
a while!

The computer which is I am currently using now to post this reply has a Intex
Optical Scroll Mouse. It some times skip from its position and sometimes hide
itself for some times. But the same mouse works fine on another sytsem.
However, the problem is not with mouse. You will not believe but the problem
is with the Mouse Pad. It works fine on another good quality pad. This is
because the light reflection. Some mouse not even work if you try to use them
on a Table. So you can try to things: a) Replace the Mouse Pad with another
one. b) Use your mouse on some other computer to check if problem is with the
mouse itself.

Further, I will suggest you to check your BIOS settings. Load them to
default values or if you can then disable the Advanced Power Management
within from BIOS. It could be possible that after inactive when your computer
returns it is causing the problem.

Restart your computer and press DEL or F2 (look at the first screen called
POST screen to see which key will be use to enter in BIOS or CMOS setup).
Here you have to look for APM settings. I will suggest you first disable APM
and then use your computer for a while. If you couldn't find any settings
then LOAD BIOS DEFAULTS settings.

Hope this help, let us know!

Still battling with this one! Talking to others about the mouse issue, seems
it is quite common with USB mouse? An office near here with 6 Dell PCs has
the same problem on all machines and they use different pads, some plain some
with pictures.
On the driver issue, still no fix. It is working OK when run in 'Safe' mode
so pretty sure it is a video driver problem - GeForce4 MX440 is the card -
but using original driver from CD still causes problem. Will have to download
a new driver off the net (65Mb) this weekend and see how that goes.

Try this before you give up to Display Drivers.

I have a issue on one of my PC, where sometimes it change the Mouse Pointer
to irritating disorted box. I try everything but with no good luck. In last,
what I did is setting different resolution with different refresh rates and
colors. Luck to me and I find one.

Try to reduce Colors to 16 Bit from 32/24 Bit. Check DirectX. Try changing
different kinds of mouse pointers from Normal to 3D type.

Hope any of above helps you, else rest is on Display Drivers. Let us know!

Well I have now given up! No change with downloaded driver so reverted to
default Windows driver and it is working reasonably well.
Thanks for all your interest and assistance
