USB KEYBOARD

Hi,
After a clean install of windows xp on my compaq presario 5000 series my usb
keyboard doesn't work any more, i can't go in bios to check if usb legacy is
enable and i checked in the device manager the usb controlers are working
properly.Any ideas what the problem is?...Thanks

Yeah, I've had this problem too. It's kind of a catch-22. You can't get into bios setup or safe mode because neither DOS or Windows recognizes the keyboard. My work around was to use a PS2 keyboard to get things working again. I have two computers both with Gigabyte motherboards. One works with the USB keyboard, but the other one doesn't. Considering the price of a keyboard, it's easier to just replace the USB keyboard. Regard, Don R

Sometimes those USB devices can be tricky. Unplugging then re-inserting the
USB cable should cause the drivers to be uninstalled then re-installed. If
that doesn't solve the problem, try unplugging the USB cable, reboot with
the cable removed. Then plug it back in. You might even try a different
USB slot.

If the problem is in fact a BIOS setting, most of the new USB Keyboards come
with a USB to PS/2 adaptor.

According to the Compaq site, the Presario 5000C? has 6 USB 2.0 ports, two
in front and four in back. The specs also mentioned the unit coming with a
PS/2 keyboard and mouse. Out of curiosity, does the QR include Windows XP
SP1 USB update for USB 2.0? If not, can you manage to perform that update
with your mouse?

On another note, if you've just added more USB devices, perhaps the combined
USB devices have too much of a power drain. If so, unplug some of the
non-critical USB devices.

I plug and unplug the cable reboot and windows found a" new hardware unknow
device"it doesn't reconize the keyboard any more ideas?...Thanks
