USB issue

I have a USB portable drive (an old laptop drive in a USB caddy); when I
bought the caddy it came with a tiny driver CD.

I installed the driver on my Windows 2K Pro laptop - and it works fine.

However - when I plug the device into any of my USB ports on my Windows XP
Pro desktop (both before and since installing the driver) I find that the
machine just about hangs - it slows down to groaning speed - and I cant see
the USB drive in explorer at all.

Any ideas please?

Most all PCs manufactured in the last 3 years have a USB 2.0 speed, but
older versions have a speed of only 1.1 You may have that problem of the
wront speed USB port for the USB caddy.
