usb hard drive

Running Win XP (home).

Got an USB hard drive for backup. Right now, it's got tons of files on it.
I'd like to delete all files, and go to a Ghost, Casper, or Acronis thing.

Is there some simple way I can delete all files at once?

To format, rt. click it in My Computer, select 'format' and follow the
prompts.

Assuming you'll be using Casper 5 which is designed to create a disk-to-disk
clone and *not* a disk image, you could simply "Copy Drive" and thereby
clone the contents of your internal HDD to your USBEHD. In so doing all the
data presently residing on the USB drive will be automatically deleted and
the resulting data on that USB drive will be a precise copy of the HDD you
cloned. There is no need to format the USBEHD. All that will be undertaken
through the disk cloning process.

Just make sure there are no files presently on the USBEHD that you want
before undertaking the disk-cloning process. If there are, save them to your
"source" HDD (the disk you are about to clone) or to some other media.
