USB hard drive problem

my recently installed external hard drive worked fine for a few weeks but
now keeps dropping out and autoplaying back onto the system.the
trouble-shooters say system and drivers are fine so any suggestions
appreciated.
 
Immediately backup your data & check it for bad blocks (surface scan etc), while connected to external power.
I've recently lost two IDE disks after connecting them to USB enclosure.
The culprit was probably bad power supply.
