USB Flashdrive

I just bought a 4 Gig USB flash drive at the computer store. I plugged it in
and Windows recognized it as a new device and that it was a flash drive.
Windows came back and said it couldn't install the device because it
couldn't find the drivers. When I remove the drive and try again I now get a
different USB confirmation sound. Instead of the to confirmation dings I get
a stutter sound and nothing happens. I didn't think you needed drivers for
the flash drives.

I am running XP PRO/SP2. I have a small flash drive that installed and works
fine. I checked my motherboard website for newer USB drivers and there were
none. Any suggestions?

Checked this particular 4 GB flash drive in another computer? Our recent
experience has indicated that reliability of 4 GB and 8 GB flash drives
are markedly less than 1 GB and 2 GB flash drives. This 4 GB flash drive
may be defective.

I tried this flash drive in another machine running XP Home and it worked
fine. I think it is something with my XP Pro machine. Thanks for the
suggestion.

XP asks for USB drivers:

One thing you should be aware of is that once the 2Gb boundary is passed,
the architecture of FLASH memory changes considerably. It is possible that
there is a compatibility problem, though I would not have expected USB
drives to have been a problem as this should be sorted internally to the
stick, though I am aware that others have had problems with USB ports on
older motherboards (suggesting a chipset incompatibility).
