USB Flash Drive reboots XP

Tara

The flash drive reboots XP whenever I move a file on the drive itself.
I tried removing all the USB hubs in device manager and that did not
fix the problem once they all installed again. I am running XP Pro,
SP2.

Has anyone had the same problem and found a fix? I've tried googling
the problem and the only possible fix was removing the USB Hubs, which
didn't work in this case. Any help or advice on this would be greatly
appreciated!

Where is the USB port that is having the trouble... on the motherboard on on
a hub.. if hub, powered or unpowered?

Does the flash drive do this when attached to other PCs?

Check out if there are new drivers for you mainboard or
you chipset. They may include drivers for the USB controler.

The flash drive works fine on a Linux box. I checked the chipset
version and the BIOS version and they are both up to date on this
Gateway laptop. I just tried another port on the laptop and tried to
move a file from the root of the drive to a folder on the drive and it
rebooted the machine again.

I plug a cell phone data cable into the same ports and it works fine.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far...

Also, I'm getting a message after restarting:

Windows has recovered from a serious error.

Here's the error code, if this helps...

BCCode : 23 BCP1 : 000E0100 BCP2 : AA0CB77C BCP3 : AA0CB478

BCP4 : 8052768E OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

I have absolutely NO idea what this means!

Do you have the latest graphics drivers for your card (or onboard chipset)?

Do you have SP2?

Do you have the latest drivers for your motherboard?

Are you sending the error reports to Microsoft?

Do you have ZoneAlarmPro on your PC?

Have you recently added any other hardware to your PC, especially RAM?

I have the latest graphics driver, yes.
Yes, I am running SP2
I checked the drivers for the MB and I have the latest per Gateway
I don't send error reports to M$
I have never installed ZoneAlarm Pro.
No upgrades have been made to this laptop - it is brand new.

This is why I'm sort of at a loss - I've checked for everything that I
know about, and still can't get it to stop rebooting the machine. It
works fine on all other machines - I've tried 5 now. Any other
suggestions?
