USB External Drive

Using Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. Western Digital USB 2.0 Exrternal Drive.
Drive does not show in Device Manager or Windows Explorer. Drive light is
on which I assume it is connected. Shows up under Disk Management as not
initialized with no drive designation.

Since all 8 of my external drives and external enclosures I've worked
with have just "shown up" in My Computer, I'd say there is something
amiss with your external enclosure.
I'd check to see if the drive is setup properly with the jumpers set as
master? Or if not master, how does the manufacturer desire the drive
setup?

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded Western Digital formatter appl and ran
that. Drive shows up everywhere.

Kool. I've always had a spare / formatted drive to install in the
cases. Probably why this has never been an issue for me.

The new hard drive cannot appear in Windows Explorer or My
Computer, nor can disk management assign it a drive letter, until it has
been partitioned and formatted. Right-click My Computer > Manage > Disk
Management. Create and format partition(s) on the external hard drive
as desired.
