USB error pls help

When I plug the flash drive into the port, i get a message saying that "one
of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows
does not recognize it". The flash drived doesnt show up as a drive in
explorer. In Device Manager it shows up as "Unknown device". I have tried
plugging it in a comp with XP and SP1. Still the same result. What is the
problem?

I tried it in another PC but same result.

Happened to me also.
Sandisk 512 Mb flash drive. With Sandisk tech support we determined the
actual flashdrive was defective. They sent me a new one.

Check for damage or interferance on your usb stick on the metal strips
that slot into your port. Other than that you will need a new one.
