I'm not able to use a pen drive with my PC. when i connect a pendrive, the
new hardware installtion wizard starts. However the operation fails after
searching for the neccesary drivers in my PC.

Is that my PC lack neccessary drivers for the Pendrive to work? If so, what
should i do to make it work?

System Os: Windows XP.

XP should be able to recognize your usb device. Does it work in another
system? Perhaps the drive is dead.

drivers? or.. Should i re- install the OS?

Or..

yes mine is xp only..

One more thing..
Y'day i got to visit http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtrouble_e.html

It addresses the same problem.
It shows a way of checking if my "inf" files in c:/WINDOWS/. After i did
all it said, it seems like the Inf files are Currupted.. So is there any way
of getting them repaired? Can i do it without affecting my other files in my
pc?
Is this the Folder where Drivers Are stored?

Please Help me out..

The first thing to try is a SFC /SCANNOW which will attempt to locate and
replace corrupt system files. To do this pop your Windows XP CD into the
drive and then exit the setup screen if it presents itself. Click on the
Start button and select Run. In the Run box type the following and click OK
SFC /SCANNOW

This runs System File Checker. You should see a blue bar progressing. It
won't tell you what or even if it found a and repaired a problem though.
When finished remove the CD and reboot the computer.

An in place Repair Install might also help. It essentially overwrites all
the current system files replacing them with good files. It does not affect
data, installed applications or most settings. It will cause loss of your
current System Restore files and you need to reinstall the current Microsoft
Hotfixes. To complete a Repair Install go here and look for How To Run a
Repair Install http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

You should a backup of all important data before running a Repair Install.
Failure to do so is not a smart idea.
