running xp pro w/sp2. wheneve I plug in a new usb device
the computer fails to load the driver (error 28) and
displays the msg "the specified service does not exist as
an installed service." I have multi-function hp printer
which I was able to mannually install the driver for, but
i have a lexar media jump drive I cannot, also a sony
camcorder that the computer will not install (all work
fine on a laptop running xp pro). any help?

Two thoughts. First, install the latest chipset (motherboard) drivers.
You may need drivers or newer drivers for your USB ports.

Second, have you ever messed around in the Services? There are some
services that are required in order to have these devices work properly.
If you have chanaged anything in there, you may want to change it back.
