USB devices problem since IT Dept made changes

This may be a coincidence but since company IT made some changes on my
Dell Latitude laptop, I now find that a USB stick and Card Reader no
longer
are recognised when plugged in; they do light up however.

Both devices are USB1, whereas porst are USB2, but are supposed to be
compatable.

Only be rebooting are they seen, which is a hassle; I'm not the
Administrator,
but is there a setting they may have caused to cause this grief?

Any advice valued.

:)

Tks

Seeing as how a USB thumb drive is the easiest way to steal privileged
information from a company, many corporations are now disabling their use.
Many corporate computers do not have floppy drives or CD/DVD burners for the
same reason.

Check with your IT department for clarification.

Review the company policy on using company PCs/laptops. It might indicate
that the use un-authorised computer components is not permitted because these
could pose a security risk. You need to discuss these issues with the IT
department, since they manage the company's computers (Your laptop belongs to
the company. Unless you paid for it, it is not yours. You are only permitted
to use it with what the company authorise to be place on it.)

Have found a workround; if you right clcik on START and choose
"Explore"; there the USB drive is!!

If your workaround of starting a new instance of Explorer works for you,
it may also work to just do a refresh (F5) after you insert the device.

It sounds like perhaps "autoinsert notification" was turned off, or maybe
someone complained about getting messages about a USB 1.1 vs 2.0
mismatch, and they turned off the "report USB errors" setting.
