usb devices not recognized after upgrade home to prof XP

I need to pick anyone's brain. After upgrading from Home
XP to Professional XP, the USB's are not recognized.

Anyone got a solution to this problem.

I did have a situation on a Compaq PC w/XP Pro where,
after performing one of the many Windows Updates, the USB
ports quit working. I corrected this by going into the
Device Manager and running "Update Driver..." on the USB
controller.
