USB Device Not Recognized

K

Kevin

I bought an external hard drive and transferred my data
to it. The next day I plugged the hard drive back in via
USB and it said that it did not recognize the USB device,
even though the day before it was recognized all day.
Please help! Thank you very much.

Sounds silly, but could you have knocked out the drivers? If so, you may
need to go into Control Panel> System and a System Properties box should
appear. Click on the Hardware tab and select Device Manager. Expand the
Disk Drives option by clicking on the small box with a cross in it and then,
if your Hard Drive is listed, right-click on it and choose the option to
update driver. If you are connected to the Internet while doing this, you
should update the latest drivers from the manufacturers website directly.
If not connected, you may be asked to insert any software (usually you will
be asked to "insert disk XXX") that came with the Drive.

Hope this helps...
