I am running MS Win XP Pro v.5.1.2600 SP1 B2600 abstraction layer ....1106
xpsp1.020828-1920. I connect to the internet via Linksys equipment WUSB11
etc. rather often I loose total connection with the LAN/WAN (LAN to WAP to
Router to cable modem and internet). I have to unplug the WUSB11 and
re-plug it in. This often happens when I am polling my e-mail accounts (MS
Office XP Pro - Outlook XP). I don't believe that OLXP is the problem as
the Local Area Network Connection Icon disappears from the system tray. The
network equipment runs fine on W2K, NT4 and W98SE but has this loose it
problem too often. Is there anyone who may know if this version of MSXPPro
has a bug and where I could find a fix please? TIA

Check in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager in the USB
devices at the bottom for the Root Hub concerned (and maybe also in an
individual entry for the device). Double click and look on the 'Power'
page to check what is connected, if in doubt, then on the Power
management page ensure that the box is not checked to 'allow turning off
to save power'.

Also some of these devices are p[ower hogs: certainly do not connect it
through a hub, but directly. I found that a plug-in Belkin 'quadrabus'
card paid off, as it provides independent and generous power to each of
its four independent ports

Thanks, the power management was turned off at the NIC card but it was
turned on at both Root Hubs.
