I have a cable modem connected via a USB port. The cable modem also has a
network port. Will it cause any problems if I disconnect the USB lead and
reconnect it using a network lead?

If ok to do this then I am I correct in presuming that I should disconnect
from USB, and reconnect via network port while the machine is switched off?

Any help would be appreciated.

you can do that, there's no problem for you.
if you are connecting the CM to a windows 2000 server, make sure you
connected in the second network card, because CMs have DHCP built-in.

if you are trying to connect the CM to a switch or Hub so every one on the
network could get into Web without passing by the server, you simple can't.
Just if you have a Cable Modem with a Router built-in instead a simple Cable
Modem.
