USB and FLash drives

I have a problem I really need help with.
I have a Dell Optiplex 620
3.2GHz CPU
1GB Memory
Win XP Pro w/all updates
Office 2003, Adobe Reader, Netscape

The problem is that when I connect my flash drive, it does not show up
in the "My Computer" folder nor does it open.
If I look in the "Device Manager" it is there. If I look in the "My
Computer > Manage > Disk Manage" I can see the flash and even change
the drive letter. It does not retain the drive letter nor does it open
the flash and I still can not see it in the "My Computer" folder.
Here's what I have done so far:
Ensured I had all updates and drivers.
Ran Chkdsk /r
Ran the repair program.
So to reiterate, My computer disk manage can see the flash drive,
device manager sees the flash drive, but it does not show in the my
computer nor does it open.

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

I have the same problem over a year or so ago, and Dell told me how to fixe
but I don't remember how or what I did
Try calling Dell
