I have a computer case that I can't even find online. The case is
probably 3 years old at least. It has two usb ports on the front. I
hooked them to my mobo that says the mobo hookup is USB 2.
Is there anything but wire size that makes the computer ports USB 1 or
2?
How could I tell without paperwork?
When I removed the little circuit card in the front of my computer
case, it had "USB 2" written right on the surface of the card. Antec
did that, because of the large number of cases they shipped on
purpose, where all they had was USB 1.0 capable stuff on the
front of the case. By writing "USB 2" on the card, they hoped
I wouldn't contact them, looking for a replacement
USB2 requires good signal integrity. There is no room in the spec,
for long lengths of unshielded wire. That will cause a USB2
controller to switch to USB 1, if a lot of errors are being
detected. In this picture here, you can see that bare wires
are kept to a minimum. There is shielding of the cable,
for the length of the extension (black wire could be connected
to the foil shield).
