USB 2 Pens Blue Screen XP SP2

To all that may have problems with USB 2 Pens Blue Screening XP SP2:

We have had a great number of Blue Screen Stop Errors (0x00000035 and
0x00000019) with USB 2 (Pen Memory) and Windows XP SP2. The typical symptoms
were that when a Pen drive was inserted the system would Blue Screen almost
immediately (not instantly, as the device was recorded in the registry).
This could be at any time: with or without a user been logged on.
Interestingly inserting the device prior to power on made for a stable boot.

99% of our machines are varieties of Dell: Optiplex (260, 270 and 280's) and
Precision systems. These symptoms only occur on systems with USB 2 ports.

We determined that the problem was related to some software product and XP
SP2 (the same systems with SP1 did not exhibit the problems). By
systematically uninstalling single applications and retesting with the USB
pens, we were able to find that by uninstalling Symantec Ghost Console
Client we could stop the problems. Reinstalling the software recreated the
problems.

We do also think that there may be some interaction between the Ghost Client
and McAfee Anti Virus Enterprise versions 7 and 8 involved in the process.
However, only uninstalling the Ghost Client would eradicate the problems
100% of the time.
