I'm unable to stop a USB 2.0 device (ext. hard drive).
The message is "The device cannot be stopped right now.
Try to stop the device later". Other USB 2.0 devices,
such as flash drives, can be stopped without problems.
This apparently started happenning after a BIOS upgrade.
However, I have reinstalled the previous version of BIOS,
and the problem continues.
What to do?

This time only, shut down the entire computer and disconnect the external
HD. Reboot and plug in the external HD. Check whether or not the unplug
or eject hardware icon appears in the taskbar. If it does, right click on it
and proceed through the stop/disconnect process. It should be working
unless there is still activity between the computer and the external HD.
The failure to eject usually happens if the cache remains unflushed or if
there is any activity involving the external device, such as an application
being run from it.

Also watch for antivirus products that are protecting the drive. (I've
noticed Norton lock flash and external drives where they can't be removed.)
