Urgent SOS: how do I access previous data?

M

Mike

Hi all,

My previous laptop recently broke down and I bought a new laptop.

I also bought an enclosure so I can take the harddrive out from the previous
broken laptop and now I am using the harddrive as an external USB.

So far so good, except --

The "Michael" folder as in the E:\Documents and Settings\Michael folder does
not allow me to access it. All my documents are there.

Access denied!!!

What's wrong with this crap?

Please tell me what to do now? This is kind of urgent...

Please be advised that I am not an experienced computer user so I prefer
easy-to-follow procedures... And I won't have a lot of tools and software on
my hand...

Thanks for your help!

A little overdone on the crossposting - but at least you crossposted.
A google search would have easily brought up your answer - but here it is:

How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP

What if I do not have administrator rights, because I am trying to access my
broken laptops data, on a usb enclosure, in a library. However, I am getting
the access denied problem.

You need to be using an account with admin rights, so that rules out
using a public computer.
