RealPlayer is know to include some spyware/parasites.
Your problem may be this one.

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MFC42.DLL at address.
Your computer may have been hijacked by Xupiter.

ModName : mfc42.dll
Mod Ver : 6.00.8447.0

Did you recently install any third-party programs?

The version of that common module is relatively old
so one possible explanation for that would be that installing
a poorly designed install might have regressed a previous (newer) version
and thus caused compatibility problems with other programs which were
designed to use the newer version.

<title>KB230733 - INFO: Visual Studio 6.0 SP3 Readme: Part 9 - File Versions</title>

(MSKB search for
"6.0.8447.0"
)

Notice from the article that there is a *set* of .dlls involved.
So the incompatibility may be due not to the version of the
crashing module but due to its callers or modules it calls.

If you are lucky there may be an uninstall procedure associated with
the offending program and uninstalling the program could restore
the original, more compatible version(s). Do a full disk search
for all instances of that module and note their respective versions
to check on that possibility.

OTOH since your OS is so old it's possible that anything that you are
installing could be making an opposite assumption about version
and not considering the possibility that the version your OS would
have had originally would be the one it would end up using.

Hmm... are you really running Win98SE? The DLL Help Database
shows that that OS gets this version of that module by default.
Win98 gets a much older version.

In either case you could try downloading the latest redistributable
and try it. Notice that the article doesn't give any information about
the possibility of uninstall, so to be really safe you might want to back up
manually each of the modules it installs. Alternatively, repost in a
Win98 newsgroup and find out if anybody else has tried this
who can tell you A) if it seems to be a sound solution and
B) if it can be backed out when there are compatibility issues.

BTW this article documents a similar problem to yours:

I have updated the Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and 2 files were
found to be installed to my machine: SVG viewer 3.0 and
Adobe Product/ Adobe Studio update 10/2001 besides the MSN
Messenger 6.2 and RealOne Player v.2.

Are they the culprits? And should I need to install the
updated version of that common module mfc32.dll and if so,
where to download??
