URGENT ... how to "back migrate" from WXP Pro to W2k Advance Server ...

Randy Volters

Hello all -

I have a system that I want to install w2k Adv. Server on. Unfortunately,
when I try to do so, it says the version of Windows (WindowsXP Pro)
installed on this system is newer than the one I am trying to install and
won't allow me to proceed.

Is there a way I can 'cripple' the system image of WXP Pro so that the
install of W2k Adv. Server would proceed? I don't want to lose the data
files on the system and don't have a reliable backup utility (I know, it is
a risk).

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated in advance.

If you have information on this computer you don't want to loose you
*really* should find some way to back that information up before you try
"crippling" the OS. Since there is no supported way to do this other than
format and re install. Trying to "cripple" the existing OS more than likely
will lead you to an un bootable existing OS and no way to set up another OS
other than formatting and starting from scratch.

Since "crippling" your existing OS is not supported, you have to go through
trial and error. There is no step by step procedure you can follow. You are
on your own.

Maybe now is the time to get some sort of backup going before you loose a
hard drive. The first time you use it it will pay for itself.
