Dave

Hi, I need help with the internet connection on one of my computers running
xp.

I have a broadband connection that goes to an adsl router and then both PCs
(XP on both) are connected to the router.
However 1 pc is able to access the internet and the other one isnt... this
problem only started a couple of days agoand it was temporarily fixed when I
uninstalled norton firewall but now its back to not being able to connect to
the internet. I have looked at the network settings, internet settings,
router settings, checked the cables, tried the cable in a different port in
the router disabled firewalls and antivirus software but I have had
absolutely no luck.
If anyone knows how I can diagnose the problem and/or fix it I would be very
grateful, especially for speedy replies.

TIA
Dave

OK

Lets go to troubleshooting 101

Do you have a link light on the router?
Swapped cables?

Go to the start menu go to run

type ipconfig /all

Does it show a 192 ip address or does it say autoconfigured?

Let us know these answers for more help

Do you have a link light on the router?
Not quite sure what a link light is but there are two green lights above
each active connection on the router inc. the pc that cant get on the
internet
Swapped cables?
Yes, swapped the cable from my xbox to the problem pc but it made no
difference
Go to the start menu go to run
type ipconfig /all
Does it show a 192 ip address or does it say autoconfigured?
When i type ipconfig/all a small dos command type window opens and then
closes very quickly... I didnt see any text in the window

Correction... did the ipconfig thing on the problem pc and the ip adress was
10.0.0.1 which i'm guessing was assigned by the network

Try going to network places..view network connections..right click the
connection and choose repair and see if it helps.

I've tried that one... it didnt make any difference. Tried doing it and then
restarting the comp aswell but still no luck
