That site works for me. A couple of things you can try...

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Locate the 'ActiveX controls and plug-ins' category.
Enable the 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins', and enable the 'Script ActiveX controls marked
as safe for scripting'

Failing that...
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Medium", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

Is it just this site, or are there others? I just clicked your link,
and I know it works over here.

Some things to try.

Go into a command console.

Start->run->cmd

ping www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au

If it works, there are problems with your browser.
If it doesn't work, try contacting your ISP.

Another thing to try is a linux "Live" Cd such as knoppix, it's a
bootable OS on CD, you should be able to do virtually everything from
there, including browse the web.

still no good! :( any other thoughts?

The ping worked. Must be something wrong with your browser. Try downloading
Firefox and see if that works.

You've done something in IE to block it.

Download another browser - like firefox from www.getfirefox.com and
try through that

If that still doewsn't work, check your software firewall settings -
you may have inadvertantly added it there.

SkitZ_CaZa,

You can try adding the site to the 'Trusted Sites' list.

* In IE, select Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > click on Trusted
Sites
* select 'Sites' > enter http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/, click 'Add' &
OK

ps-Have you checked the Hosts file as per previous poster mentioned?
Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc > open with Notepad
* Look for any entries that say 127.0.0.1 fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/
* remove the entire line of text, click OK & save

Drew

SkitZ_CaZa,

Also, make sure your Security settings in IE > Internet Options are set to
'Default Level'.
And in IE > Internet Options > Advanced. Click 'Restore Defaults'.

ps-Again, as previous poster mentioned, are you having problems with other
web sites?

Drew

Try emptying your Temporay Internet Files and Cookies folders.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | Click Apply | Click OK. Entirely up to you, but if
you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

blocked it wouldn't disableing the firewall fix that?

What happens when you try? What specific error messages do you get?
What do your system event logs report? What specific troubleshooting
steps have you already taken, and what were the results of each? Have
you contacted the administrator of the web site to determine if any
specific plug-ins and/or security settings are required?

No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of
pertinent information.

I am not a computer wizard, and no i do not know how to do certain things on
my computer, that is why i contacted this website.
I have always found this website to be infinately helpfull, and the other
messages previous to your were actually trying to help me, you on the other
hand!!!
If only you would have just told me what and how to do maybe i might have
fixed the problem.
Thanks for making me stupid, when i clearly was only after help.
In future please refrane from trying to help.

Oh and thank you to the others, especially mad dog as firefox has worked!!

AHA! You might try reinstalling IE. Though I honestly think you'll like
firefox a lot better.

I have read and re-read Bruce's message to you and I cannot see anything he
said making you stupid. He asked several questions to try to get some
information from you because it is impossible to help someone without
knowing something about the problems you are having.

Thanks paulmd i will try that!

Ra, I do understand that the more information the better, however if he read
my first message he would have seen what i have tried. I know it wasnt much,
however as i already stated im not top of the line in computers and i wasnt
sure "what else" i could do. i was a little offended by the choice of words
he used.

"No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of pertinent

So yes he did make me feel less educated(in computers),.. but this site is
for learning, not putting down. I am extremely greatfull for the time people
have to make comments and to help others.
Thank you for trying to help

Bruce has a way of using over-flowery words that sound condescending.
(and sometimes are) But he's a guy who really knows his stuff, and he
must want to help people or he wouldn't have been at this as long as he
has (years).

A lot of tech people have personality defects, so try not to get
offended.
