Hi, does anyone know if Windows 2000 Professional Edition has a recovery or
restore data feature similiar Windows XP? I was recently hit by a virus and
lost key information that I can't replace. I would like to send my laptop
back a couple of days to have the systsem as it was. I would greatly
appreciate your response.

Thanks,
Jim

Win2K does not have a built-in system restore function.

Hi Rick,

Do you know of any way to restore data in Windows 2K Pro? Or I pretty much
bummed?

If you don't have any backups, probably the latter.

Depending on which virus you got and what damage it did, an
antivirus package might be able to clean your system and
recover some of your corrupted files. Also, if the virus deleted
files and those areas of the disk have not yet been overwritten
by other data, you might be able to recover them by using an
undelete utility.

Hi Rick,

I got the W32.Inzae.A@mm virus
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]
and it pretty much deletes all files jpg, doc, xls, etc. Most of the files I
would say we use day in day out. I will look into an undelete utility. Any
you would suggest?

To get the best results try to use the PC as little as possible until
you've run the recovery - any writes to the logical disk that has the lost
files could result in unrecoverable files.

Once you've got it sorted, click start->run and type "ntbackup"
Use this program every day ;-)
