Just follow the instructions, and whatever you do, don't
format, unless you want to lose your data.
Smart to back up first, just in case.
 
There shouldn't be.

However I'd probably take the precaution of backing up things like
documents, music files, videos etc.... but then I'm paranoid.

It's the easiest and most likely successful of all upgrades.

However there are no guarantees. However unlikely, it's always
possible that something might go wrong. For that reason it's
prudent to be sure you have a backup of anything you can't afford
to lose before beginning.
