UPS

Are there any UPS units out there that can run on backup for 2 hours or
more?
Most of them I have seen are around 10 - 20 mins
All it will be running is a computer system, label & document printer,
phone/fax

Think again. The purpose of a UPS for a computer is to give the user
enough time to shut down normally. If you have a different need then you
are looking for a more specialized device.

Backup time is a function of battery size divided by load. Either
Increase battery size or decrease load. Honda generator perhaps?

You can buy a portable generator system, with an automatic
starting system and also a set of UPS for each computer and
other essential system. If there is a power failure, the
UPS will keep the computers running for a few minutes while
the generators auto-start and get on-line with steady
output. The cost should be less than $10,000, call an
electrical engineer. Personally, I have my PC on a 1 minute
shutdown with only the tower and monitor and the cable modem
and router on the UPS. I just want all programs to close
properly. Printers can be allowed to power off and the
worst you do is print it again. A UPS will not /should not
be asked to run a laser printer because even in standby, the
laser printer power draw is high.

Yes, we have an APC 3000 series with 4 racks of batteries that power two
servers and the router/firewall for 24 hours runtime.

Don't go with Belkin or Tripplite, get an APC or Liebert UPS.

Try something in this line, make sure that you select the proper load
(wattage) and then select the one that shows the runtime you want:

The purpose of a UPS is to do whatever the owner wants it to do. Some
of us have UPS systems that include generators. (hint; "what does the
"U" stand for.)

back to the OP, go to apc.com and look at their business-grade UPS
systems. Make sure that you plug your broadband modem
and router into the USP.

Most UPS manufacturers do not recommend running a printer on the same UPS as
the computer. Whenever a printer starts up from "power saving" mode, or
starts to print, it draws too much power for most UPSes to handle and the UPS
may shutdown the PC.

You will need to locate UPS model that will always provide battery power to
the computer. This will isolate the computer from the power fluctuations that
most generator cause. These type of UPSes are usually known as On-Line
models. Both Tripp Lite and Powerware provide small affordable models.
