Could someone pls tell me how to undo the 'uppercase on the first letter of
the word in a new line'. It drives me crazy.

In 2003 and prior, go to, Insert, AutoText, AutoCorrect, uncheck the
"Capitalize the first letter of sentences" box.
In 2007, I believe this is found under the Insert tab, Text group, Quick
Parts, Building Block Organizer.
Hope this helps

And stop typing Enter at the end of a line. This is not a typewriter,
it's a word processor.

Tools > Options > Autocorrect Options

(the one you want is probably in the "Autoformat as you type" tab)

Actually, it's Tools | AutoCorrect Options, but Insert | AutoText | AutoText
also provides access to the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
