uploading web page with frames

Hello
My friend has recently asked me to do some editing of his website at www.metrosouthselect.com. I think the page has frames it sure looks like it. Only when I download the page using the http function the home page is without the frame on the left. Do have to upload with ftp for it to look right. or is there a way to get rid of the frame. I would much rather get rid of it and use included content. Also when you download with http they never ask for password. should it? thanks for any of your help. Mat

Yep has frame on left.

How are you downloading it with http that it's not asking you for a password? It *does* ask for a password.

Don't use ftp.

RE: the password.
It is actually opening the whole site without a password? If so, your
friend had better contact his host immediately, or there will be some
serious problems.

Especially now that the URL has been publicly posted.

Ok when I say I'm downloading the site I go to import then the http option and tell to download 99 pages deep. It does not download every file. Is this the correct way. and if I'm not supposed to download ftp how can I publish since host doesn't have FP extensions. I still don't know why the frame doesn't appear. I see it as a file in the folder but it does'nt show when I open the index like on the internet. Please help. matt

Hi Matt,

As long as you have FrontPage the best way to do it is to open the live
web..and then *publish* it back down to your computer..don't import it..

Do a File | Open Web..or File | Open Site using FrontPage 2003..and then
type in the Domain name (like http://www.whateveritis.com ) At that point
you should be challenged for user name and password..enter those and the
entire site should open..and then you simply publish it back down to your
computer.

Sorry Matt..I just realized you said the host doesn't have the
extensions..so using ftp or importing..are your only options.

if you're publishing down to your site, make sure you choose every file - frames
are made of at least two files - the "frameset" (could be the index.htm file)
then the pages that make up the frameset - in your case there is one called
"navigation.htm" and one called "home.htm".

You open "index.htm" (the frames file) in frontpage to see in design view all
pages in the frameset, not the individual pages.
