upload manager

I get an error entry in event viewer "upload manager does not exist as an
installed service". (upload manager fails to open).

Something in the registry is hosed. There are keys for it in the registry.
How do I fix this?

Hi,
It is really difficult to know from your description what the problem is we
need the exact verbatim of the error message to be able to help!
Here some guesses and please let me know the outcome:

Do you have Picasa and you are using their Upload Manager?

XP Home SP-2 No domain
Tried changing service to LOCAL; said it could not run as a LOCAL.

Using Mcafee for antivirus+firewall; no Picasa; upload manager is the MS

Originally XP Home SP2. Updated to SP3. Machine seemed unstable so I
uninstalled SP3. Now it is SP2 with latest updates.

Once, I got upload manager to run with a manual start, as LOCAL. Could not
upload files.

Upload manager is in the registry and shows up in the services panel.

I reverted to the original settings of Automatic start, Network Services.

Attempting to start the service from the Services panel results in this
message "could not start the Upload Manager service on Local Computer. Error
1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account
specified for other services running in the same process". What other
services? How do I find them so I can check the accounts?

Try to open a Notepad and copy and paste the below code into your Notepad
and save it on your desktop as uploadmanager.reg.
Right click it and select merge to merge to your regsitry and Reboot your

Tried changing service to LOCAL; said it could not run as a LOCAL.
Is NETWORK SERVICE in admin service pull down, but in EVENT VIEWER it shows
N/A as the user!
Using Mcafee for antivirus+firewall; no Picasa; upload manager is the MS
uploadmgr that comes with XP.
Is the account missing in the registry, but present in the image files?
Where in the registry can I check the account registration for uploadmgr? It
may have been removed. When I manually start the service, it says it cannot
run as a LOCAL.

Because it runs as a network sevice, it can't run as SYSTEM or LOCAL. This

Hi,
You need to run this Service under Local account or under this specific
account you are using.
Try to make sure the service in the services control panel is started and
see under which account.
Open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK]
Locate the service and double click it to get the properties then click on
Log On Tab and see if it is running under local account or specified account.

I reverted to the original settings of Automatic start, Network Services.

Attempting to start the service from the Services panel results in this

What Service pack you have installed?
Did you tried to go to the services control panel and stop the service or
make start manual?
The upload manager doesn't exist after SP2 upgrade so I guess you still with
SP1!
Let me know and why?

I ran scannow and it didn't show a result at the end, so I assume all is ok
there.

I have saved all of the links and this thread, and I will review everything
later. (again!)

I am reluctant to reinstall the whole OS at this time.

I have access to another XP machine, and next week will examine the registry
entries for uploadmgr.

If I am able to fix it, I'll let you know.

BTW, if you get Outlook.exe won't close at shutdown, disable Abobe active
x's. That fixed it for me.

Cheers

I actually have the same exact issue on a machine I am cleaning for a
family member right now. It's interesting that we are both all of a
sudden seeing this. I am running XP Home SP2 as well. No McAfee on
this machine or Picasa. Office 2007 Student edition installed. If
nass is accurate in that Upload Manager doesn't exist after SP2, why
do we both have it? If you learn anything on this, please let me
know. Also, if there is any info I can give to help compare setups,
just let me know.

HI Steve,
Uploadmgr is in the registry but not in SERVICES in XP PRO.

I switched the DWORD to 20 as it appears in XP PRO, but it didn't fix it.

When I try to manually start the service, it says the account is different
than others running in the same service.

It will start if I change it to LOCAL, it will start but still no file
uploads.

The original setup is NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICES, which I believe is
correct.

How is your upload manager set up?

BTW, XP PRO is different in alot of areas,so settings from there aren't much
help.
(I have access to that).

If it is the same, I am stumped.
