Upgrading

I just upgraded my work laptop from windows XP to windows Vista Business,
everything went through fine, except now i try to log on as administrator
and it says my account has been disabled please contact system administrator.
Need some help

In Vista the Administrator account is disabled by default. It can be
enabled but the preferred solution is to log in using a normal user account
instead.

I tried to log in as another user and it says "There are currently no logon
servers available to service the logon request." But when i try another way
it says to log on the this computer and not the server type TABLETPC\Username
and password but it will not work. How can I enable the administrator
without any access to the computer

By default, in Vista, the built-in Administrator account is disabled.
It becomes available only if no other administrator accounts exist.
During the installation, you would have been asked to create a user
account which has administrative privileges. Simply use this account to
accomplish whatever tasks you perform that need the elevated privileges.

It did not give me the option of creating a user account when I upgraded it
just went through.

Did one of the pre-existing user accounts already have administrative
privileges under WinXP, then? If so, that's the one to use.

Yes but when you try to log on with that username it wont let you do it either

Username and Password incorrect. It just took it away. the username that we
were using was administrator and if you try that one it says it is disabled.

You mean you had been using WinXP's built-in Administrator account,
with no other user accounts created? That is the reason you now have no
usable user accounts.

The built-in Administrator account really was never intended to be used
for day-to-day normal use. The standard security practice is to rename
the account, set a strong password on it, and use it only to create
another account for regular use, reserving the Administrator account as
a "back door" in case something corrupts your regular account(s).

Have you tried rebooting into Vista in Safe Mode? That should allow
you to access that built-in Administrator account so you can create
other user accounts for normal usage.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.

Is this laptop joined to a domain? Do you know the name of the computer? If
it's joined to a domain then you have to specify either the domain name or
the computer name when typing in the username. Some examples

domain\username

computername\username

If the computer is joined to a domain then you may have to be physically
connected to the domain network and have someone who is a domain
administrator logon and fix this for you.
