I want to upgrade my system from windows 98 to xp pro,but
a very expensive piece of software, which is integral to my
business, hasn't yet got an xp driver and I have had to
revert to 98.My computer has 2 hard-drives,one much larger
than the other. Is it possible to install xp on the larger
one, with the bulk of my business files and the problem
encrypted program on the smaller drive, retaining windows
98 and,more importantly,how do i do it?
Yes it is possible to create a dual boot by installing XP on the second hard
drive, but I wouldn't recommend it in your described situation.
You state this is a computer that is essential to your business and must
retain 98 for software compatibility. My suggestion would be to purchase
another system with XP installed. The cost would not be that much more than
you would spend on the purchase of a full version of XP plus the software
upgrades you would need to make upgrading from 98 to XP. In your business
situation, you should not even think about using the upgrade version for the
dual boot, even though it will install and activate.
You could network the two systems and create a much more useful network
configuration. You would have access to both systems all the time without
the need to reboot to the system you desired.
There are also inexpensive devices that allow the use of a single monitor,
keyboard and mouse to control both computers.
Secondly, can anyone let me know why microsoft have refused
me free online support, when i have typed in a perfectly
legitimate product id code?
