upgrading xp

i have xp home, and want to upgrade to hp pro.

during installation, you get 2 options - new installation or upgrading which
is recommended.

if choosing upgrading option, will all the installed programes etc work, or
do you have to reinstall them all once again, drivers etc.?
 
All your installed software, including drivers, will continue to work. The
upgrade doesn't affect your installed software.
