Upgrading Vista Home P to Ultimate : upgrade dvd will not load

After weeks of trying to get Vista to work properly (following a memory >
card > crash) - did all the usual repairs and chkdsk's and taken Norton off >
etc...I was advised to upgrade to Ultimate.

I posted the question if I upgrade to Ultimate will it >ix corrupted files
as I could not load any new programmes etc kept getting error message : The
resource loader cache doesn't have loaded MUI entry)

Brink replied that upgrading to Ultimate should fix the problem, but I
could also run a Repair (Upgrade) install with Home Premium to fix it at it
would allow me to repair your Vista installation and keep your user account
files, settings, and programs.

Unfortunately I have an OEM version which does not allow this, the upgrade
is disabled.

Anyway I purchased the Ultimate Upgrade for about USD 320 (in SAfrica), I
cannot run it in the DVD drive as I get the same error message. When I boot
on it it says that I must upgrade from my existing version - not great as it
is corrupted and will not allow it!! Tried safe mode which allows the DVD to
run an "exe" file but it says that the upgrade cannot be done in safe mode.

I am trying to avoid a reload of all applications etc as it takes
forever..and I am insecure about getting everything back although I hvae
copied them onto a USB drive. Looks like I am wasting time and money ... can
anyone help??

Brink link for clean install from upgrade disk.

You can't boot an upgrade disk, and get it to install(thus, that error).
You have to have vista running, and then put the DVD in the drive.
But, it gives you an error.

You can't install in Safe mode, as you found out.
But, you can copy your Data(documents) while in Safe mode(but you have
already saved it).

My advice is to reinstall via the OEM disk, then upgrade, or after
installation do a clean install, updates, reinstall programs and copy your
Data back..

One thing with these clean installs from an upgrade disk, is that there is
talk of microsoft putting a stop to it.

Cheers!
