Help, I am trying to upgrade my Toshiba laptop from XP
home to XP Pro. It gets to the 'installing devices'
stage where it seems to hang at first then at about 75%
through the 'installing devices' stage it bombs out to
the blue screen briefly before re-starting the computer.
The cycle then keeps repeating.
How can I abort the setup?

Hi Bob,

You may not be able to abort the setup at this point. Are you able to access
Safe mode? If so, does it indicate Home or Pro at this point? You may need
to either boot the WinXP Pro CD and repair the installation, or format and
start over with the disk set you got with the laptop. The problem may stem
from the fact that the retail CD may not have all needed drivers for your
laptop. Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if it is ok to use a
retail disk, or if they offer a Pro version with the necessary driver sets?
Make sure you also disable any av software during the upgrade.

Many thanks for your response.

I have, not sure how, got the installation completed by
re-booting off the CD and repairing the installation but
now have another problem!!

All the internet connections that I had before have now
disappeared and I need to re-establish a connection.

The internet connection that I have here is a broadband
connection that requires a username and password but when
I go to set up a new connection the only one that is
available is the broadband that is always on. Even the
dial-up is not available, so I cannot connect to the
internet to activate Windows.

Any ideas where the other options of connections have
gone?

Many thanks

Hi Bob,

Was the connection originally setup using the ISP's software? Or did they
give you a list of settings to use? Are there any connectoids currently
under the Control Panel/Networking? If so, right-click them and check
properties.

At this point, you'll probably have to start over with a disk format and
clean install. Since you didn't tell us the model number, we can't help
you further. Suggest you contact Toshiba tech support or post back with
more details. At the very least, you should research your problem on
Toshiba's website.
