Upgrading to Vista

I know they are releasing upgrade versions of this from Windows XP Pro.
However, as one who does not like do do the upgrade path and would rather do
a clean install, can I still use an upgrade version when I have an OEM that
came with my dell since it didnt come with an OS disk. Thanks.

Yes, but it would be good if you had a backup copy of the OS so you can
validate it in the future, just in case you need to reinstall Vista.

please notice that:

1. the RC1 will expired in Jul 2007
2. the RC1 of vista could not be upgraded to the coming commercial version
of Vista.

So,if you only run Vista RC1 in your computer, you need a complete new
installation then.

You can create a disk of the Dell OEM system restore partition that is
included at the end of your hard drive using Ghost Explorer to extract the
bits and burn to a CD. I have done this and have a complete OEM disk of
Windows XP Home edition. Of course, I replaced it with XP Pro so I really
don't need the disk.

You should have taken the option to have a OS disc as opposed to a "system
restore{" disk.

With the OS disc I just reformatted ,repartioned (I knew I was going to do
Vista from the day I got my Dell,) and reinstalled XP on the C: parttiotion.

This way you gett rid of all of Dell's crap.
