Upgrading to Vista from XP

Hi,
I wanted to upgrade my Dell Latitude D610 to Vista. I clicked on Upgrade
and the software told me that I could not; my computer would not allow the
upgrade and that I must install Vista as a new operating system, resulting,
of course, in the loss of all files and applications. Does anybody know a
solution to this? Thanks in advance.

Boot to your Windows XP desktop, insert the Windows Vista
upgrade DVD in your DVD drive, then select the "upgrade"
installation option.

Provided that you're following an authorized upgrade path
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradepaths.mspx),
and have the appropriate Vista installation media (retail licenses; OEM
media *cannot* perform in-place upgrades), simply insert the Vista
Upgrade DVD and follow the on-screen instructions. (If you have
Autoplay disabled, you may need to browse to the DVD and run Setup.exe.)

Did it say why? Maybe low hard disk, an app that was interfering?
